“Andy and Kei are both dynamic athletes and we’re thrilled to have these two top five players at the Citi Open® this year,” said Jeff Newman, Tournament Director. “This tournament, the Capital Tennis Tradition, has always showcased the world’s best, and 2015 could be the best year yet.”

Nishikori graced the cover of Time Magazine in January 2015. He bested ATP World Tour No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the U.S. Open semifinals to reach the finals, making him the first-ever Asian-born man to reach a Grand Slam final. So far in 2015, he has clinched his third straight Memphis Open and reached the finals of the ATP World Tour 500 event in Acapulco. He holds a total ofeight singles career titles, including two in his native Japan.

The Citi Open® Tournament is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The event is also part of the prestigious Emirates Airline US Open Series, the five-week summer tennis season that links eight North American hard-court tournaments to the final Grand Slam of the year, the U.S. Open. In addition, the Citi Open Tournament features a WTA International Tournament, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only four U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields.

The tournament’s owner and beneficiary, the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), provides underserved children in the D.C.-area with a safe environment to learn critical life skills both on and off the courts through academic and athletic enrichment.
