STRONG CONTINGENT OF CANADIAN PLAYERS TO COMPETE AT THE CITI OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT

WASHINGTON (July 6, 2016) — A strong contingent of players from Canada, led by superstars Eugenie Bouchard and 2014 finalist Vasek Pospisil, will vie for the Washington title at the Citi Open® Tennis Tournament, July 16-24.

In her first appearance in Washington, Aleksandra Wozniak will join Bouchard in the tournament’s WTA main draw, while 19-year-old Francoise Abanda will receive a wild card to compete in the qualifying rounds. 

In the men’s ATP tournament, rising star Denis Shapovalov will receive a wild card into the singles main draw. The 17-year-old today reached the quarterfinals of the juniors’ singles tournament at Wimbledon.
