The mini-series will recount the Tournament’s history, in its 50th edition this summer, through interviews with the Tournament’s co-founders and other key influencers who helped to bring tennis to D.C.
Partnership will also offer Ultimate DC Sports Package
Citi Open® and Monumental Sports Network today announced that they will create a mini-series, the 50th Celebration Series, to commemorate the Washington Tournament. The 50th Celebration Series, presented by GEICO — a Tournament sponsor for nearly two decades — will include a mini-series exclusive to Monumental Sports Network, a first-of-its-kind direct-to-fan digital sports platform. The mini-series will recount the Tournament’s history and legacy, with interviews with the Tournament’s co-founders and other key influencers who helped to bring tennis to D.C.
“We are thrilled to partner with Monumental Sports Network to share the making and history of this iconic event,” said Keely O’Brien, Citi Open Tournament Director. “It is my hope that through this collaboration, our D.C. sports fans will be reminded of the Tournament’s long-term commitment to serving our community and for hosting world-class competition.”
Founded in 1969 by Donald Dell and John Harris, the tournament has seen its share of triumphs and tribulations on and off the court. Fifty years later, the Tournament remains in its original city, in its original location in Rock Creek Park, and stands as one of the longest-running professional tournaments in the country.
The partnership is also offering the Ultimate DC Sports Package, which bundles together tickets and to the Citi Open along with a one-year VIP membership to Monumental Sports Network.
“The Ultimate DC Sports Package brings D.C. sports fans closer to the action,” said Zach Leonsis, Monumental Sports Network Senior Vice President and General Manager. “At Citi Open, you’ll get one of the best seats in all of tennis with unparalleled proximity to your favorite tennis stars. With Monumental Sports Network, the all-access sports programming gives fans an intimate look at the area’s home teams.”
The Package includes a ticket to any Citi Open session from July 30 through August 5, as well as a one-year VIP membership to Monumental Sports Network. This membership provides online streaming for many of the Tournament’s 50th anniversary programming, including the Wild Card Challenge featuring local players competing for a spot in the tournament, the 50th Celebration Series, live and on-demand games, exclusive shows, discounted merchandise, VIP events, and ticket opportunities.
Value Reserved ticket packages start at $40 per ticket, Reserved ticket packages start at $65 per ticket and Box Seat ticket packages start at $102 per ticket. All ticket packages will go on sale starting April 24. These will be available to purchase at www.citiopentennis.com.
