Direct-to-Fan Digital Sports Platform, Monumental Sports Network, to Broadcast Wild Card Challenges

The Citi Open® Tennis Tournament is excited to announce the 2018 Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Singles Wild Card Challenges. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer, the Citi Open Tennis Tournament continues its history of highlighting local tennis talent by providing the opportunity for players to win coveted spots in the tournament’s qualifying rounds through these challenges.

The Citi Open Doubles Wild Card Challenge will be hosted at Montgomery TennisPlex in Germantown, Md., from April 28-29, 2018. The Citi Open Singles Wild Card Challenge will be hosted at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington D.C., home of the Citi Open, from June 15-18, 2018. Both Challenges are a fully sanctioned USTA/Mid-Atlantic Adult events. Registration for both Wild Card Challenges are open now under TICKETS.

Monumental Sports Network, a first-of-its-kind direct-to-fan digital sports platform, will broadcast the Singles Wild Card Challenge.

“We’re so excited to bring back the Wild Card Challenges this year to give local tennis players an opportunity to play in this world-class event and be covered on this incredible digital sports platform, Monumental Sports Network,” said Keely O’Brien, Citi Open Tournament Director. “We want our local players to have the home court advantage — to have friends and family cheer them on while they earn their spot in the tournament.”

The winners of the men and women doubles and singles competitions will receive wild cards into the doubles and singles qualifying competitions of the 2018 Citi Open Tennis Tournament, to be held July 28-29 at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington D.C. Challenge champions will have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the tournament roster with some of the world’s best tennis players, as well as two box seats to the Citi Open Finals on Sunday, August 5. All men’s and women’s Doubles and Singles Challenge finalists will receive two reserved seats to the finals as well.

In order to qualify for the Doubles and Singles Wild Card Challenges, all participants must be at least 14 years of age and maintain a current residence address in the Mid-Atlantic region (DC, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia). In addition, all participants must have resided in the Mid-Atlantic region for five consecutive months before the start of the event. A player does not need to be a USTA member to register for this tournament. The entry fee for the Doubles Wild Card Challenge is $81.13/per player. The entry fee for the Singles Wild Card Challenge is $81.13/per player.

All Singles Wild Card Challenge participants will receive a one-year subscription to the Network as part of their registration. The one-year VIP membership to Monumental Sports Network provides online streaming for DC sports including live and on demand games as well as exclusive shows, discounted merchandise, VIP events and ticket opportunities and coverage of the Wild Card Challenges.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer, the Citi Open will be held from July 28 – August 5 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center, benefiting underserved and low-income kids in the D.C. community through the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation. The Citi Open Tennis Tournament is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The tournament represents a WTA International event and having both ATP and WTA players provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only five U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields. Main draw matches of the tournament will be broadcast starting Monday, July 30, on Tennis Channel.
